As a Week 1 Leader for Teens Tutor Teens’ Diversity and Inclusion Workshop, I not only learned a lot about the importance of inclusivity in a company but also enjoyed the various opportunities to self-reflect on diversity’s role in the success of any organization. Getting the opportunity to listen to a world class speaker like Jane Elliott was an honor, and even to this day I still feel that her words from our culminating session with her are still qualities I make an effort to incorporate into not only my work for Teens Tutor Teens but also my everyday life. |
Being one of the diversity and inclusion workshop leaders truly did teach and show me a lot, it showed me how diverse certain companies can be and how some can work to be a little more diverse and inclusive of other races and ethnicity’s. It also showed me how exclusive some people and business owners can be, in their shops some races can be looked down upon more than others and downgrade their accomplishments, but it brought me to see how great the teens tutoring teens organization is we are all one and we will continue working together as one. Being a leader of this workshop opened my eyes to see how much this world has really evolved with segregation and woman’s rights and how it has made so much of a change in being more inclusive over all and working to make the world a better place. |
Finishing the Diversity and Inclusion Workshop, it was an enlightening activity to reveal internal biases I hadn’t yet realized. Because of my learning experience, I understand the discrepancies between inclusivity and racial diversity. When we are able to understand how diversity influences us on a core-based approach, we take advantage of it to use as self-development in and out of the workplace while making a safer environment for everyone. |
My name is Nihitha Nelakudity and I really loved attending this workshop because of the many new doors that it opened up for me and Jane Elliot’s talk to Teens Tutor Teens really touched my heart and made me completely understand the importance of accepting anyone no matter their ethnic background, race, skin color, religion and more. I was able to understand that everyone is special in their own way, everyone is different and everyone has their ups and downs. Overall I loved the diversity inclusion workshop and I learned to be more open minded not just for teens tutor teens but overall in life and I really thank Jane Elliot for that |
"I found the Diversity and Inclusion workshop eye opening. It revealed core ideas to me, such as there being only one race, the human race, and helped me understand how something such as our own bias can be a core factor in the presence of racism and other issues in society. It also explained topics to me such as the connection between melanin production and skin color, and opened me up to ideas I had never considered learning in the past." |
